Integrity is a very delicate subject and therefore always hard to talk about it. Despite the fact that most of the event professionals are hardworking, honest people and have very high level of integrity it still happens that somewhere someone puts a dark cloud over our heads. Thankfully, stories when florist, event designer or stylist didn’t show up, overcharged for their services or delivered wrong flowers are rare.
Integrity is not something that one can learn. You have it, or you don’t. It’s just that simple.
Over the years there has been a lot of controversial talks about hidden fees in the event design field, décor in particular. Referral fee and commissions were the main topics. Allow me to collaborate on this matter. Let’s say you are buying a dishwasher from Home Depot at the retail price. How much does Home Depot mark up their product? Is their salesman making a commission? Are there any other costs involved? We don’t know. But what we do know is either we can afford the asking price, or we have to look for alternatives. Why not implement this model into wedding décor? Lets’ look.
If a production company is willing to wholesale their product (in our case flowers for the wedding), it is their choice. If there is an event planner, which helps you to design your wedding or a venue that sells the product, they might want to add their design/referral fee on top. It’s okay as long as the client doesn’t have to pay the skyrocketing price. It is good in theory, but unfortunately, in real life, it does not always work. If there are too many hands in a pot, the price will go up and why should you pay for it?
But what is the “standard industry price” and who would be a judge of that? It’s a million dollar question. Prices vary from place to place, county to county, state to state. High-end design company charges more for their labor, celebrity designer will charge you for their name that they work so hard for to establish and it goes on. To discipline this, we created Wedding Appraisal, whereas we provide you the actual retail price (excluding local labor, set up fee and local taxes). Independent estimate enables you to have a right idea what the cost of your décor should be, meaning that we will put you in the driver’s seat and give you full control.
